Oh, man. You’ll wanna sit down for this one.

A cyberattack began to impact MxM’s server and resources beginning Thursday, April 16th 2020 - in the early morning hours. It blindsided the admins and caused severe impact to bandwidth resources, which caused an automatic suspension of the server by our hosting provider.

We responded by assessing the extent of the cyberattack, and confirmed that a weakness in their implemented kernel was likely the means of the attack - something the hosting provider is ultimately at fault for - and that no user data was breached. (Thank fuck lol)

The hosting provider failed to take responsibility for its security vulnerabilities and chose to charge US significantly just to RECOVER our data - so we quickly opted for another provider, because... yeah, we don’t do that here.

This is ultimately why the website remains offline.

    - We paid the (predatory) fees to properly initiate recovery because our members’ content and data is more important than anything in the known universe.

    - We’re switching everything from a VPS (Virtual Private Server) to a Dedicated Server - a huge performance upgrade overall for our users, and a solution that gives us maximum control over security. To keep shit like this from happening.

    - The domains that allow you to access MxM have been repointed to the new Dedicated Server, which is currently showing information related to the outage. In 48 hours, this should take full effect globally. Until then, you’ll get domain not reached errors.

    - This sucks, and we’re putting everything into ensuring that you never get a repeat of this nonsense again - and an even better MxM out is the deal.

Sit tight. *rolls sleeves* We got this.

  • Testing
Recovery SUCCESSFUL. We're now combing through and testing everything to ensure nothing was missed, tightening security everywhere possible, making sure that encryption is in place through the new server, etc. Access will be held back until we're done.
